Summary

DC BLOX, a Southeast regional provider of data centers, network, and cloud solutions, delivers services out of its data centers located in Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Alabama. DC BLOX owns, operates, and maintains next-generation modular data centers connected via private, diverse fiber optic networks. We seek a Cable Landing Station Power Feed Equipment Engineer to join the team to manage all aspects of subsea and terrestrial connectivity equipment in our soon-to-be DC BLOX data center and international cable landing station located in Myrtle Beach, SC.

This position will be responsible for managing the daily operations of power feed equipment and all other aspects of the systems for a growing, multi-tenant data center and international cable landing station. As the Power Feed Equipment Engineer, you will be responsible for continued service assurance, modification to or upgrade of submarine cable and ancillary equipment (i.e. SLTE, DWDM equipment, etc.). This shall include monitoring the performance and condition of the submarine cable and ancillary equipment, testing, fault finding, card/board/unit replacements or additions, measurement, adjustment, configuration, powering, corrective action, and all other tasks reasonably required of CLS (Cable landing station) staff to ensure maximum availability of the submarine cable and ancillary equipment. DC BLOX will provide engineer training on the use of any ancillary equipment and DC BLOX-supplied test equipment before any action request on specific ancillary equipment before going live.

This person will regularly interact with customers to assure the highest customer service for new installations, moves, adds, and changes. This position will work closely with the Data Center Site Manager to implement existing DC BLOX operating procedures for the data center and work with operations teams to define, refine, and streamline processes as needed.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of firsthand management, knowledge, and experience gained working in other cable landing stations. He or she should be proficient with critical electrical and networking practices in a 24×7 data center environment. Cross-training with other operations personnel will be expected to provide continuity of operations at the site.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engineer shall understand and shall comply with optical and power safety procedures and requirements outlined in relevant suppliers’ operations and maintenance manuals
  • Engineer shall be fully engaged and in compliance with the Subsea operations leader safety protocols
  • Oversite of vendors to ensure that all work is addressed according to best practice and established DCBLOX procedures and cable landing station procedures
  • Establish and oversee preventative maintenance MOPs, schedules, vendor relationships, etc.
  • Work with and for the Data Center Site Manager to facilitate customer tours, installs, etc. to assure the highest customer satisfaction

  • Complete subsea cable front haul route inspections from CLS to Beach manhole based on provided requirements and follow up with front haul operations and maintenance tasks required based on inspections and formed maintenance schedules (training will be provided on particular needs)
  • Understand and keep up with all needed tools and spare parts inventory based on the contract negotiated with the client
  • Understand, report and schedule corrections for all unintended issues based on contracts with subsea cable provider
  • Installation and test of Optical Transport Network circuits on submarine and terrestrial paths (training will be provided on particular needs, but experience with this type of work should be part of candidate’s resume)
  • Ability to work with offsite NOC to respond to any alerts and meet SLAs required by client contracts
  • Performs physical data center inspections and log reporting
  • Oversight of network upgrades and commissioning

Qualifications

  • Experience with optical network equipment and testing meters used for troubleshooting optical fiber
    • SLTEs (Submarine Lite Terminal Equipment), Lite power Amplifiers and how to operate, configure, and troubleshoot these items
    •  Ability to test fiber using the OSA (Optical Spectrum Analyzer), OTDR, COTDRs and Byrd testers, etc. 
  • Knowledge and experience working with PFEs, repeaters, and branching units
  • Knowledge of DC power and how DC is used by HVPFE at both ends of the cable system to provide and share the power load on the submarine cable
  • Experience with critical mechanical and HVAC systems in a data center and Telco environments

As the Data Center Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for day-to-day requirements, regular preventative maintenance, vendor management and all aspects of the on-site critical systems. You will be responsible for reporting, PUE management, and assuring all safety and industry standards are followed.

This person regularly interacts with customers to assure the highest customer service for new installations, moves, and changes. We seek a Site Data Center Manager to join our team to manage personnel, processes, and initiatives in a new DC BLOX Data Center and International Cable Landing Station located in Myrtle Beach, SC.

This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the data center and coordinates the activities of the data center team to deliver outstanding service to DC BLOX customers in compliance with SLA requirements. As the Site Manager, this individual oversees all customer activity to include moves, adds, and changes. This role is responsible for implementing existing DC BLOX operating procedures for the data center, and working with Operations teams to define, refine, and streamline processes as needed.

This individual supervises and provides leadership and support to the Data Center Facility Manager, International Cable Landing Station power feed Equipment Technicians and contract Security Personnel in the data center. These oversight responsibilities include ensuring that maintenance, security, capital improvement projects, PUE management, client designs/installs, and interfacing with suppliers and power utility providers are all addressed and performed with the highest industry benchmarked standards. This role also oversees required safety protocols and ensures method of procedure (MOP) documentation is completed for all activities and helps enforce ITIL related processes.

The ideal candidate brings a combination of firsthand management, knowledge, and experience gained working in other data centers, and should be proficient with data center practices. This candidate needs solid familiarity or experience with certification processes and standards such as SSAE 18 / SOC 2, NIST 800-171 / 53.

DC BLOX will provide engineer training on the use of any ancillary equipment for the subsea cabling infrastructure, and any power feed equipment prior to going live.

This position is responsible for a subset of design decisions related to data center projects which can include: new construction, phased expansion, retrofits and upgrades, acquisition conversions, mechanical and electrical equipment selections and Design standards upgrades. This person is preferably a high performing Electrical Engineer but may also be a mechanical or controls engineer or Architect with demonstrated capability to think and make decisions across disciplines. The Design Manager critically assesses design decisions under direction from more senior staff and supports such staff in applying the required DC Blox standards and to make design choices that align with current business drivers and marker opportunities. They assist in the management of the relationship and output of key design partners and equipment suppliers for their assigned tasks and critically assess and escalate issues where the relationship with such partners is not meeting expectations.

Key Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage project design development for the entire lifecycle of the project from conceptual design to closeout.
  • Coordinate design deliverable timelines to ensure alignment with overall project schedule and provide feedback on potential risks to project.
  • Coordinate internal alignment on project document reviews, cost optimization exercises, design contract issuances and design modifications.
  • Ensure all stakeholders buy off on project decisions while communicating deadlines and schedule.
  • Initiate and facilitate kickoff meetings with MEP/AE firm(s) to introduce project team, review design intent/basis of design, etc. and discuss or clarify project deliverables and expectations.
  • Facilitate page-turn design document reviews and assemble comments with action items for internal stakeholders and direct contracted design partners.
  • Lead Weekly PM Sync with MEP/AE Team Project Leads, to discuss and support process, schedule, changes.

  • Oversee OFCI equipment release, delivery, deficiencies, startup and commissioning.
  • Partner with DC BLOX vendors and Data Center Operations to ensure successful completion of their scope (i.e. Signage, Furniture, Security and Controls).
  • Provide project commissioning support by onboarding the Commissioning Agent, facilitating script approvals and ensuring compliance with customer requirements.

Key Qualifying Criteria

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design or Electrical Commissioning experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Project Management or Construction related field.
  • Minimum 4 years professional experience in the Data Center construction or design industry.
  • Experience with engineering drawings and records management practices and procedures.

This position is responsible for supporting the Accounting and Finance activities for DC BLOX, including the annual budget, strategic planning, the monthly close & forecast process along with ad-hoc financial analysis.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the forecasting and annual budgeting process.
  • Design, build and maintain budget and long-range forecast models.
  • Coordinate and document processes for internal financial reporting systems.
  • Drive more meaningful reporting tools to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare financial presentations in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Work directly with CFO, Controller and Director of FP&A on special projects.

Key Qualifying Criteria

Systems and Tools – Experience with QuickBooks, Intacct, Excel and Planful is a plus.

Education – Four-year degree in finance or accounting from an accredited college or university.

Relevant Work Experience – A minimum five years relevant finance and accounting experience.  Having a CFA or on the path to CFA is a plus. Experience in a data center and or real estate investing environment a plus.

This position is responsible for supporting the pricing activities at DC BLOX.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all pricing proposals, including setting all market and product prices, discounts and special promotions. This includes collaborating with sales and finance resources, modeling and refining the assumptions and desired pricing, supporting the recommendations through executive approvals, and tracking the success of the proposals.
  • Fully develop models to assess the financial impact and profitability of retail and strategic pricing proposals.
  • Develop reports and perform analysis on budgets and phase/task data to monitor the firm’s pricing performance on AFSs. Provide guidance on strategies to improve pricing results.
  • Effectively provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support operational, financial and strategic business inquiries.
  • Ability to translate analytical findings into actionable solutions and processes.
  • Create C-level presentations and summaries to communicate recommendations and risks.
  • Reduce complexity in models and processes to support efficient and streamlined yet accurate pricing responsiveness to internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to assist in the development of financial and competitive pricing strategies with innovative options for firm and client benefit.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional work teams and meet tight deadlines, as well as interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Broad analytical skills set, including ability to work with mathematical concepts and the ability to interpret a variety of financial data. Strong technical skills, including a high level of proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • High level of interpersonal, communication, presentation and collaborative skills.
  • Requires 5 years of pricing & finance experience.

This position is responsible, with the assistance of the Finance Team, for recording all business transactions of the organization. The Staff Accountant will assist the Finance Team in the preparation of monthly and yearly financial statements.

Duties

  • Preparing and processing of general ledger transactions and journal entries
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting
  • Review, reconcile and process vendor invoices according to company procedures
  • Prepare, review, reconcile, and issue customer invoices, and account statements according to company procedures
  • Assist in completing the monthly close process
  • Assist with year-end annual audits
  • Assist with periodic sales, property and other tax filings
  • Various ad hoc financial analysis and performing special projects as requested

DC BLOX seeks an energetic, motivated individual with suitable technology and solutions architecture experience to scale its growing business.

  • Extensive experience collaborating and working closely with sales and operations teams as a Sales Engineer or Solutions Architect.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with internal and external audiences.

  • Understanding of and experience in most or all the following areas:
    • Custom, comprehensive solution development including design, documenting specifications and costing/pricing
    • Technology systems: including but not limited to
      • High performance networks and connectivity (including switching, transit, transport, etc.)
      • Operational understanding of end-user primary and infrastructural applications
      • Public, private and hybrid cloud solutions
      • Object, file and block storage at scale
      • Data center power lineup and delivery systems, including a functional knowledge of electrical and cooling systems
  • Experience developing detailed technical solutions and specifications, and sales quotes.
  • Must be located within the geography of DC BLOX data centers (i.e., Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina).
  • Ability to travel as needed to any/all DC BLOX facilities, customer locations, conferences, trade shows, etc., in support of these responsibilities.
  • Strong presentation skills and business acumen.
  • Proficient in professional tools and formats (.doc, .xls, .kmz, .ppt, .pdf, .vsd, etc.)

Responsibilities

The day-to-day responsibility of this role focuses on partnering with the Sales Team, their prospects and customers, other internal departments and third parties to develop and quote technical solutions for DC BLOX to sell and implement.

Qualifications / Preferences

  • Formal education in computer science, software development, IT/network operations, or related discipline with a suitable degree(s) (e.g., BS/BA/MS, etc.)
    • Industry certifications and training is a plus, but not required 
  • At least 8 years of experience in described areas, collaborating, and succeeding with sales teams, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Communication, critical thinking, and strong presentations skills.
  • Proven track record of internal teaming sales success with sales representatives. Being a team player is a must.
